What is a Plug Lockout Device?
A plug lockout device is a lockout/tagout device that prevents a disconnected electrical plug from being reconnected by enclosing the plug, restraining the cord, or blocking the socket, so that power cannot be restored while equipment is being serviced. In each case it accepts a padlock so the connection cannot be remade. This makes plug lockout the simplest control for cord-and-plug connected equipment – a scenario OSHA specifically addresses, covering everything from a computer power cord to a large three-phase industrial plug. It is applied alongside a personal safety padlock and a safety lockout tag.
