Pin and Sleeve Lockout Devices

Pin and sleeve lockout devices secure the colour-coded industrial connectors used on machinery, construction sites, ports and temporary power, so a disconnected connector cannot be plugged back in. E-Square manufactures both ends. The pin and sleeve socket lockout seats inside the female socket, held by the socket’s own flap, supplied in four sizes for connectors from 110 V to 500 V rated 16 A, 32 A and 63 A. The pin and sleeve plug lockout closes around the outer wall of the male plug and fits all plug sizes. As a pin and sleeve lockout manufacturer and supplier, we ship direct to industry across 109+ countries.

What is a Pin and Sleeve Lockout Device?

Pin and sleeve connectors are the colour-coded industrial plugs and sockets that supply single-phase and three-phase machinery, high-current equipment and temporary power, standardised under IEC 60309 (the CEEform connector range). Unplugging one breaks the circuit, but nothing stops it being reconnected, and that is the job of the pin and sleeve lockout device. The mechanism depends on which end you secure. A pin and sleeve socket lockout is inserted into the female socket, held by the socket’s hinged flap, then locked off with a separate lockout hasp and padlock. A pin and sleeve plug lockout closes around the outer wall of the male plug, securing the protruding plug body so it cannot be inserted into a socket, and takes a padlock directly.

    Compliance and Standards

Our pin and sleeve lockout devices are designed to support compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147 for the control of hazardous energy. Once the socket lockout is fitted and locked with a hasp and padlock, or the plug lockout is padlocked directly, the connector stays disconnected under the exclusive control of the authorised employee. For international operations, the devices also support energy-control programmes aligned with EN ISO 14118:2018 (prevention of unexpected start-up), AS/NZS 4024 and CSA Z460.

Regulatory requirements vary by jurisdiction, so always verify with your local authority or a qualified safety professional.

Pin and Sleeve Lockout Devices - Frequently Asked Questions

It secures an industrial pin and sleeve connector so it cannot be reconnected during maintenance. We supply two devices, a socket lockout for the female socket and a plug lockout for the male plug, each used as part of the lockout/tagout procedure.

They secure opposite ends. The socket lockout fills the female socket and needs a separate hasp to accept a padlock, while the plug lockout closes around the outer wall of the male plug and accepts a padlock directly. Choose the one that matches the open end you need to secure.

The pin and sleeve socket lockout is inserted into the open female socket, and the socket's hinged flap closes over it to hold it in position. To complete the lockout it is secured with a separate lockout hasp and a safety padlock, so the padlock fits through the hasp, not the device itself. A warning tag is applied as part of the LOTO procedure.

The pin and sleeve plug lockout is a clamshell that closes around the outer wall of the male plug, securing the protruding plug body, and takes a padlock directly through its own provision. The plug then cannot be inserted into a socket, so the connector cannot be reconnected. One device fits all plug sizes.

The socket lockout is selected by the connector's outer diameter and voltage, in four sizes: Small (44 mm, 110 to 130 V), Medium (55 mm, 220 to 240 V), Large (62 mm, 380 to 415 V) and Extra Large (69 mm, 500 V). Each size covers 16 A, 32 A and 63 A connectors and fits 3-pin, 4-pin and 5-pin sockets. Share the connector's diameter and rating and we will confirm the device.

No, the devices are supplied on their own. The socket lockout pairs with a hasp and safety padlock, while the plug lockout takes a padlock directly, and tags are applied as part of the LOTO procedure. We can supply matching hasps, padlocks and tags, or a complete custom LOTO kit.

They are designed to support compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147 for the control of hazardous energy. Once a device is fitted and locked, the connector stays disconnected under the exclusive control of the authorised employee. Requirements vary by region, so always confirm with your local authority.
