Cylinder Lockout Devices

Cylinder lockout devices prevent an industrial or gas cylinder from being operated during maintenance, handling or storage. We manufacture two distinct families: conventional lockouts that enclose the valve head and support group lockout with up to three padlocks, and gate-valve lockouts that cover handwheels on propane cylinders and similar applications. E-Square manufactures and supplies cylinder lockouts across industries in 109+ countries.

What is a Cylinder Lockout Device?

A cylinder lockout device prevents the valve of a gas or industrial cylinder from being operated while the cylinder is out of service, during maintenance, change-out, transport or storage. Two distinct families address different valve types. The conventional cylinder lockout is a two-piece interlocking housing that encloses the valve head of a standard gas cylinder, leaving the handle inaccessible; the gate-valve cylinder lockout covers the handwheel found on gate-valve-type cylinders (most commonly propane cylinders on forklifts), preventing rotation. Both devices carry integral warning text and work in conjunction with a personal LOTO tag applied as part of the isolation procedure.

    E-Square – Cylinder Lockout Manufacturer & Supplier

E-Square Alliance manufactures India’s largest range of lockout tagout devices, with over 1,800 LOTO SKUs designed and produced in-house at our New Delhi facility. Our cylinder lockout range spans both valve types: conventional lockouts in standard yellow and red, full/empty colour-coded variants for industrial gas management, a cable-fitted version (ES-VCLO+EML, combining a 2.5 m cable lockout), and customised options; plus three cylinder gate-valve lockouts (standard, clear and milky for visual verification). These products are engineered on proprietary tooling backed by 72+ design patents.

We hold Star Export House status from Govt. of India  and ship direct to industrial buyers, distributors and resellers across 109+ countries. As an OEM supplier to major international industrial brands, we maintain the quality bar set by global procurement teams, a standard sustained over two decades.

Our Range of Cylinder Lockout Devices

We manufacture two cylinder-lockout families matched to the valve type on the cylinder being secured. Each is designed for a specific isolation point and mechanical operation. Browse the range below and enquire for the exact variant and specification that fits your equipment.

    Conventional Cylinder Lockout

The valve head of a standard industrial or gas cylinder

Two interlocking plates close around the valve head (85 mm / 3.35″ × 150 mm / 5.9″ internal cavity, 35 mm / 1.4″ stem hole), leaving the handle inaccessible; accepts up to three padlocks through three shackle holes for group lockout

Yellow, red, plus colour-coded green (full) and red (empty) for gas management; cable kit and customised options also available

    Gate-Valve Cylinder Lockout

Cylinders fitted with a gate-valve-style handwheel – most commonly propane cylinders on forklifts

Covers the handwheel itself to stop it being turned

Standard red, plus clear and milky versions for visual verification of the underlying valve position

How to Choose the Right Cylinder Lockout?

Selecting the correct device depends on these practical considerations:

What type of valve does the cylinder have?
Match the device to the valve. A standard gas-cylinder valve with a hand-operated stem takes the conventional cylinder lockout; a cylinder with a gate-valve-style handwheel (commonly propane cylinders on forklifts) takes the gate-valve lockout. The two are not interchangeable.

Will more than one worker apply a lock?
The conventional cylinder lockout has three interlocking shackle holes, so up to three padlocks can be applied. This supports group lockout where multiple authorised workers each fit their own padlock, and only release when all work is complete.

Do you need full/empty visual identification?
For industrial gas management, the green-lidded “FULL” and red-lidded “EMPTY” variants give immediate visual status, integrated with standard yellow and red lids. These colours align with industry-standard specifications and can be customised to your brand guidelines or site requirements.

Do you need the valve visible without removing the lockout?
On gate-valve cylinders, the clear and milky versions allow an authorised worker to verify the underlying valve position without disassembly.

Benefits of E-Square Cylinder Lockout Devices

Our cylinder lockouts make gas and cylinder isolation reliable and visible on the floor:

    • Both valve types, one manufacturer – Conventional valve-head lockout and gate-valve handwheel cover, all designed and built in-house.
    • Group lockout built in – The conventional design has three interlocking shackle holes that let multiple authorised workers apply their own padlocks. Release only happens when all workers remove theirs.
    • Visual cylinder management – Colour-coded full (green) and empty (red) variants integrate the lockout into gas-store visual control, not just maintenance flagging.
    • Integral warning text – “DANGER CYLINDER LOCKED OUT” and “DO NOT REMOVE” is pre-printed on the housings, supplementing the LOTO tag applied as part of the procedure.
    • Customisation available – Colour coding, laser engraving, private labelling and the ES-CLO-CUS customised option for branded LOTO programs. Custom kitting is also available to bundle cylinder lockouts with padlocks, tags and other LOTO devices.

    Compliance & Standards

E-Square cylinder lockouts are designed to meet OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147 requirements for the control of hazardous energy. Once fitted to the appropriate cylinder valve type and padlocked, the cylinder valve remains inoperable under the exclusive control of the authorised employee.

For international operations, our cylinder lockouts also support energy-control programmes aligned with AS/NZS 4024 (Australia/New Zealand), EN ISO 14118 – prevention of unexpected start-up (UK/Europe) – and CSA Z460 (Canada).

Regulatory requirements vary by jurisdiction and industry. Always verify current requirements with your local authority or a qualified safety professional.

    Cylinder Lockouts for Every Industry

Industrial gas cylinders are stored and used across a wide range of sectors, and forklift fleets running on propane represent a significant use case for the gate-valve cylinder lockout.
