May 8, 2020
Each year, 8th May is celebrated as World Red Cross Day and Red Crescent Day across the globe. It supports the charitable work of the Red Cross and it is also an opportunity to get involved in fundraising and help people in Crisis all over the world.
The Red Cross support is offered in a diverse variety of ways, from emergency help and medical support in times of crisis such as war, terrorism or natural disaster to helping those dealing with loneliness and supporting victims of modern slavery and trafficking.
This day celebrates the principles laid down by the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. This is an opportunity to offer our voluntary medical services to the society. It is also the day to honour all those who have worked selflessly day and night for the betterment of the society.
Red Cross Day, 2020 ⛑️
In this period of uncertainty and unpredictability, the Red Cross staff and volunteers across the world have been on the frontlines to save lives of people affected by the unprecedented pandemic. The ICRC regional delegation based in New Delhi is closely working with the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to deliver a unified response to prevent the spread of COVID-19 across the country.
Thousands of volunteers of IRCS state branches are working tirelessly in the districts across the country. They are delivering health and sanitary resources as well as essential food items. They are proactively engaged in dissemination of information on disease prevention and health education - covering frequent handwash, respiratory etiquette, social distancing, use of alcohol-based hand rub, and masks, among others.
World Red Cross Day is the reminder that it is the duty of each one of us to remember all those who gave all their lives in the services of the needy….. Let us take inspiration from those helping hands and do out little bit for the society.
Your care, E-Square ♥
E-Square initiates an active participation in serving the society at first, and salutes our Health Workers, Policemen, Doctors, Cleaners, Safety providers and people who go above and beyond to serve humanity.
As safety professionals, we exactly know the responsibility of every safety provider in a country. It takes a lot of courage and belongingness towards the society, to step in the shoes of the needy and despair; to empathise and live what they are going through. Humanity is all about feeling and living the same, it is only when we understand the suffering of the society that we can do justice to it!
Us as professionals, everyday we come across accidents, sufferings, cry of the grieved and distressed. We have seen tremendous downfall of industries who lost their workforce, property and are imposed to heavy penalty- all at the same time; the uncontrollable cry of the loved ones who lost their sole bread earner; the chopped fingers; the left away shoes, because they no more have feet; the bodies paralysed due to electric shocks; the homeless because his house was next to the factory; the depressed, the innocent and what not!
We are dealing with it everyday! And we are sorry to mention, that even after the rigorous efforts of the safety providers and government, even the Top-Management sometimes is least concerned and ignores the importance of Lockout Tagout. One basic act of safety can protect billions of innocent workers, if companies start taking LOTO seriously.
Let us understand the importance, and promise ourselves that on this Red Cross Day, we will do our bit to serve the society in every way possible for us.
A warm thank you to all those who are selflessly serving humanity and bringing a good change in the society….. Happy World Red Cross Day to all!!
